Membership Committee of the Association of Arab Universities Visits Somaliland Universities | 24/08/2016 | | | Hargeisa – As a follow-up to the
visit by Secretary General of the Association of Arab Universities Dr. Sultan
Abu Orabi Al Adwan earlier this year to the Republic of Somaliland, and based
on the membership applications submitted by Amoud University in Burma City and
Yaro University to join the Association of Arab Universities, a membership
examination committee was formed, chaired by the Secretary General of the
Association of Arab Universities Dr. Sultan Abu Orabi and including as its
members President of Mogadishu University Dr. Ali Al Sheikh and former
President of Middle East University Dr. Sultan Abu Orabi Dr. Maher Saleem. The committee
examined these universities in terms of the academic qualifications of the
faculty members, the ratio of faculty to students, and the facilities including
teaching halls and laboratories of faculties and departments, libraries,
student spaces and sports courts as well as the system for acceptance and
registration adopted at each university and the general conditions for
acceptance of students in the various specializations. The committee
recommended the acceptance of two universities as members, and the
recommendations were submitted to the Association’s General Conference to
proceed with the official procedures and make a final decision.
The Association’s delegation, accompanied
by the Association’s Director of Media and Public Relations Mr. Waheeb Karajeh,
also met with a number of ministers and academic officials in Somaliland.
In a related context, Dr. Abu Orabi
announced visits to universities in Somaliland over the next few months to
complete the membership examination procedures for Gollis and Nugaal
Universities after fulfilling their membership conditions.
The Association’s delegation visited Al Najah
University in Yaro City and met with its administrative officials. Dr. Abu
Orabi expressed his gratitude to the Somali universities for their prompt
response and for working continuously to join the Association as members, as they
constitute an important part of the Arab academic institutions which should be
engaged in all academic activities, international conferences and official
events regularly organized by the Association. This will enable the
universities to benefit from relations and communication channels with Arab and
international institutions and organizations. | |
