Decisions of the Association of Arab Universities in its Extraordinary Session

Amman, 6 December 

The General Conference of the Association of Arab Universities, in its extraordinary session held at Zaitouneh University recently, decided to accept a number Arab universities as working and participating members, as well as transferring other universities in the Association From participating membership to working membership.

Secretary General of the Association of Arab Universities, Dr. Sultan Abu Orabi Al Adwan, told the Jordanian News Agency on Tuesday that the universities that were accepted were: University of Laghouat in the People's Democratic Republic of Algeria; Kafrelsheikh University in the Arab Republic of Egypt; University of Sulaimani, Sulaimani Polytechnic University, University of Human Development, Soran University, International University of Erbil, Erbil Polytechnic University, Ishik Private University and Koya University in Iraq’s Kurdistan Region; Benadir University, Simad University, University of Gezira, Amoud University, and Burao University in Somaliland; Fahd bin Sultan University and University of Business and Technology in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and the American University of Madaba in Jordan.

Dr. Abu Orabi added that the Conference also decided to approve the acceptance of the following universities as participating members of the Association, as follows: Sur University College in the Sultanate of Oman, Bayan University in Iraq’s Kurdistan Region and Israa University from Gaza, Palestine. Moreover, it was agreed to transfer the membership of the Lebanese French University in Iraq’s Kurdistan Region from participating membership to working membership.

He pointed out that in view of the marked and distinguished activity of the Association in the past few years and at the recommendations of the Association’s Executive Council, the Conference decided to extend the mandate of the General Secretariat until 1/7/2018.

The Conference moreover decided in its meeting held at Zaitouneh University, with the Assistant Secretary Generals of the Association Dr. Mohammad Rafat

Mahmoud and Dr. Mustafa Al Bashir in attendance, along with 150 presidents of Jordanian and Arab universities and representatives of international institutions and organizations, to task the General Secretariat with deciding the date and venue of the upcoming fiftieth session as it deems appropriate.​
