AArU and ALECSO Strengthen Cooperation to Advance the Arab Qualifications Framework

The Association of Arab Universities (AArU) and the Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO) held a virtual coordination meeting to discuss the development and implementation of the updated and expanded Arab Qualifications Framework (AQF), reinforcing their shared commitment to enhancing education quality, promoting mutual recognition of qualifications, and aligning learning outcomes with labor market needs.
The meeting brought together Ms. Lina Al-Bitar, Director General of AArU, Prof. Walid Salameh, AArU Senior Consultant, and Prof. Mohamed Sanad Abu Darwish, Director of the Department of Science and Scientific Research at ALECSO.
The Arab Qualifications Framework is a strategic regional initiative that provides a unified reference for academic and professional qualifications across the Arab world. It aims to facilitate comparability and recognition of qualifications, strengthen academic and professional mobility, improve education and training quality, and enhance the competitiveness of Arab human capital.
Both organizations agreed to establish specialized sectoral working groups covering general education, higher education, technical and vocational education and training (TVET), and professional education. Each group will develop its sector-specific framework, which will later be integrated into a unified Arab framework under the joint supervision of AArU and ALECSO.
To ensure effective implementation, the partners also agreed to launch a pilot training phase, followed by a comprehensive regional capacity-building program for experts in qualifications, quality assurance, and accreditation, while jointly mobilizing resources to support the framework's long-term implementation and sustainability.
The meeting concluded with a reaffirmation of the strategic partnership between AArU and ALECSO and their shared commitment to building a more integrated, competitive, and future-oriented Arab higher education ecosystem.
