As part of Arab efforts to strengthen a culture of quality and advance educational practices across all levels of education, the Association of Arab Universities (AArU) launched the “A New Arab Beginning for Quality Assurance in Education” initiative, alongside “A New Beginning 2 for Quality Assurance in Pre-University Education,” launched by Egypt’s National Authority for Quality Assurance and Accreditation of Education (NAQAAE).
The event was held on Thursday, 22 October 2026, at the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States in Cairo, under the patronage of the Secretary-General of the League of Arab States. H.E. Prof. Amr Ezzat Salama, Secretary-General of AArU, attended the event, accompanied by Prof. Hisham Abdel-Nasser, Director of AArU’s Arab Council for Quality Assurance and Accreditation.
H.E. Prof. Salama emphasized that quality assurance must go beyond compliance with standards and procedures to deliver tangible impact on teaching and learning, improve learning outcomes, and equip graduates with the knowledge and skills needed to navigate rapid changes in the labour market, technology, and artificial intelligence.
Led by AArU and implemented by the Arab Council for Quality Assurance and Accreditation, the initiative comprises two complementary tracks: the Arab Quality Ambassadors Program, engaging university students in promoting quality and contributing to the development of the university environment; and the Arab Quality Experts Program, supporting faculty members, quality professionals, and academic leaders in developing their professional capacities and preparing for future Arab regional reviewer programmes.
In its first phase, the initiative aims to directly reach around 10,000 students, with a gradual expansion through cascading training to reach approximately 100,000 students. It also provides subsidized training and incentives for students and faculty members, supported by a digital platform for registration, training, assessments, digital certificates, and progress tracking.
Through the Arab Council for Quality Assurance and Accreditation, AArU reaffirms its commitment to continued cooperation with the League of Arab States, national quality assurance bodies, and Arab higher education institutions to strengthen quality as a sustainable institutional practice and enhance the ability of Arab universities to respond to future demands and rapid developments in higher education.
