Monday 1/6/2026
The Association of Arab Universities (AArU) has launched the fourth edition of the Arab Ranking for Universities (ARU), announcing the opening of registration for Arab universities wishing to participate in the 2026 ranking cycle. The launch was marked by a specialized interactive workshop for ranking coordinators at Arab universities, attended by more than 400 participants from across the Arab region.
The workshop commenced with opening remarks by HE Prof. Amr Ezzat Salama, Secretary General of the Association of Arab Universities, who emphasized the importance of the Arab Ranking for Universities as a strategic tool for enhancing the quality of higher education and supporting continuous development and improvement efforts across Arab universities. He noted that the ranking contributes to strengthening universities’ competitiveness and academic standing at both regional and international levels.
Prof. Abdelmajid Ben Amara, Chair of the Steering Committee of the Arab Ranking for Universities, also addressed the participants, highlighting that the ranking represents a balanced model that takes into consideration the specific characteristics of the Arab higher education landscape while adhering to internationally recognized standards for evaluating higher education institutions. He stressed that this approach contributes to institutional excellence and enhances the academic and research performance of Arab universities.
During the workshop, Prof. Anas Ratib AlSoud, Executive Director of the Association of Arab Universities, presented the ranking criteria and indicators, as well as the latest updates introduced to the ranking platform. These enhancements were designed to provide a more efficient and organized user experience, enabling universities to submit their data through a streamlined, transparent, and user-friendly process.
Prof. AlSoud also announced the integration of Artificial Intelligence technologies into the ranking platform for the first time. The AI-powered assistant has been developed to support participating universities by providing guidance on ranking indicators and criteria, explaining data requirements, and assisting users throughout the data submission process, thereby enhancing data quality and improving the overall efficiency of participation.
The event was attended by Ms. Lina Al-Bitar, Director General Administration at the Association of Arab Universities, alongside representatives and ranking coordinators from Arab universities participating in the workshop.
The Association affirmed that the launch of the fourth edition of the Arab Ranking for Universities reflects its ongoing commitment to advancing the quality of higher education across the Arab world and supporting Arab universities in their pursuit of excellence and competitiveness in accordance with internationally recognized academic standards.
