H.E. Prof. Amr Ezzat Salama, Secretary-General of the Association of Arab Universities (AArU), inaugurated the 19th edition of the EDUGATE International Higher Education and Training Forum & Exhibition 2026, held under the patronage of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research of the Arab Republic of Egypt and the Association of Arab Universities, under the theme “Towards Future Universities.” The opening ceremony was attended by senior higher education leaders, university presidents, representatives of educational institutions, and international partners.
H.E. Prof. Salama emphasized that the continued success of EDUGATE and its reaching its 19th edition reflect the strong position the event has established as one of the leading higher education platforms in the region. EDUGATE brings together universities, students, policymakers, experts, and international partners to foster dialogue, exchange knowledge and experiences, and build impactful academic collaborations.
In his remarks, H.E. highlighted that higher education is undergoing rapid transformations that are redefining the role of universities. Universities are no longer limited to generating and transferring knowledge; they have become key partners in shaping the future and preparing generations equipped with innovation capabilities, lifelong learning skills, and the ability to adapt to the evolving demands of the labor market.
He further noted that today’s students seek modern academic programs and skills that prepare them for global competitiveness. Therefore, universities must continuously develop their disciplines, strengthen the connection between education, research, and development, and leverage emerging technologies and artificial intelligence to serve humanity and society.
H.E. also praised the remarkable progress achieved by the higher education system in the Arab Republic of Egypt, particularly in terms of the diversity of university models and academic programs. He reaffirmed that the Association of Arab Universities continues its efforts to strengthen cooperation among Arab universities, enhance quality in higher education, and support research, innovation, and digital transformation through its various initiatives and programs.
EDUGATE is recognized as one of the most prominent higher education events in Egypt and the region. It serves as a leading regional platform that brings together universities, students, policymakers, experts, and international partners to discuss the future of higher education, promote academic partnerships, and align educational outcomes with labor market needs and development priorities.
The 2026 edition of EDUGATE features the participation of more than 120 Egyptian and international universities, alongside a comprehensive scientific program addressing key higher education priorities, including the role of artificial intelligence, advancing research and innovation, and strengthening partnerships between universities and industry sectors.
Concluding his remarks, H.E. Prof. Amr Ezzat Salama reaffirmed that “the future of nations is built in their universities,” emphasizing that investment in knowledge, people, and innovation remains the foundation for achieving sustainable development and enhancing the competitiveness of societies.
