The General Secretariat of the Association of Arab Universities, in partnership with UI GreenMetric, organized an introductory webinar entitled: “Sustainable Universities Ranking – UI GreenMetric”, on Monday, 20 April 2026, with broad participation from representatives of Arab universities across the Arab world, in clear confirmation of the growing interest in sustainability issues in the higher education sector.
The session was opened by Prof. Anas Ratib Al-Soud, Executive Director of the Association of Arab Universities, who emphasized in his remarks the importance of Arab universities adopting sustainability concepts and integrating them into their institutional strategies, in a way that enhances their role in addressing environmental and developmental challenges and improves their performance in global rankings.
The session witnessed notable attendance from academic leaders, experts, and specialists. It aimed to introduce the UI GreenMetric ranking framework and its role in promoting sustainability concepts within universities, as well as encouraging institutions to adopt environmentally friendly and sustainable practices.
The session addressed several key topics, most notably: understanding the mechanisms of the UI GreenMetric sustainable universities ranking, enhancing the sustainable campus through governance and institutional policies, highlighting the role of digital transformation in improving environmental and institutional performance, and exploring ways to integrate sustainability into university strategies and operations.
The organization of this session comes within the framework of the Association of Arab Universities’ commitment to supporting its member universities, enabling them to strengthen their presence in international rankings, and keeping pace with global trends in sustainability. This contributes to improving institutional performance, enhancing competitiveness, and supporting their role in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, through knowledge exchange and capacity building.
