The Association of Arab Universities Hosts International Webinar in Collaboration with TIEC to Advance Global University Partnerships

As part of its ongoing efforts to promote the internationalization of higher education and expand academic cooperation, the Association of Arab Universities (AArU), in collaboration with the Texas International Education Consortium (TIEC), organized an international webinar titled: “Building Successful International University Partnerships: From MOUs to Meaningful Institutional Outcomes.” The event brought together directors of international relations offices, deans, faculty members, and senior higher education leaders from across the Arab region.

The webinar opened with welcoming remarks by Prof. Dr. Hisham Abdel Nasser, Director of the Quality Assurance and Accreditation Council at AArU, representing the Association. He welcomed the participants, emphasized the importance of strengthening international cooperation among higher education institutions, and highlighted the strategic partnership between AArU and TIEC, along with its impactful initiatives aimed at advancing the internationalization and institutional capacity of Arab universities.

The webinar featured Ambassador (ret.) Michael Pelletier, Founding Executive Director of the Institute for Global Engagement at the University of Houston, who delivered an in-depth presentation on global best practices in building effective international university partnerships, drawing on more than three decades of diplomatic and academic experience.

The discussion focused on one of the key challenges facing higher education institutions today: transforming Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) into sustainable institutional partnerships that generate tangible impact in teaching, research, innovation, and community engagement. This requires strategic planning, strong governance, trust-building, and effective cross-institutional communication.

The session also highlighted best practices in managing and sustaining international partnerships, as well as strategies for expanding academic collaboration, research cooperation, student mobility, and faculty exchange, thereby strengthening the global presence and competitiveness of Arab universities.

This webinar reflects the strategic partnership between AArU and TIEC and reaffirms the Association’s commitment to advancing the internationalization of higher education, strengthening institutional capacities, and fostering impactful global partnerships that enhance the quality of education and research while elevating the global standing of Arab universities.
