H.E. Prof. Amr Ezzat Salama, Secretary-General of the Association of Arab Universities, participated in the “Wissam Al-Khair Initiatives” ceremony, held at the headquarters of the League of Arab States in Cairo on Wednesday, 15 April 2026. On this occasion, he delivered a speech via video conference in which he emphasized the importance of promoting a culture of volunteerism and reinforcing the values of social responsibility across the Arab world, in support of achieving sustainable development goals.
His Excellency noted that the competition serves as an important platform for empowering community initiatives and encouraging youth to engage in innovation and giving. He also highlighted its role in transforming pioneering ideas into sustainable projects with tangible impact. He further underlined that the ceremony goes beyond honoring winners, contributing instead to the dissemination and strengthening of volunteerism within Arab societies.
He affirmed that the Association of Arab Universities places great importance on supporting community initiatives within Arab universities, recognizing their pivotal role in serving society and developing human capital. In this context, he stressed that universities have evolved into key partners in achieving sustainable development by adopting volunteer initiatives, fostering a spirit of citizenship, and aligning educational outcomes with societal needs.
The event, organized by the Arab Council for Social Responsibility, witnessed the participation of 59 contestants representing six Arab countries: the Arab Republic of Egypt, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Kingdom of Bahrain, the Republic of Yemen, the Republic of Sudan, and the State of Palestine, alongside a distinguished group of prominent Arab figures.
In conclusion, H.E. Prof. Amr Ezzat Salama reaffirmed the importance of continuing to support community initiatives and strengthening Arab partnerships, in a way that consolidates the culture of volunteerism and empowers Arab youth to play an active role in the development of their societies. He also stressed the need to adopt pioneering initiatives and transform them into sustainable projects with measurable impact, thereby enhancing the positive image of Arab human potential and supporting the path toward comprehensive development in the Arab world.
