ASSOCIATION OF ARAB UNIVERSITIES > ABOUT
SECRETARY GENERAL
Esteemed Presidents and Directors of Arab Universities, members of the Association of Arab Universities, I warmly welcome you to the official website of the Association of Arab Universities. Through this platform, we aspire to advance its mission with transparency and clarity, achieving development and modernization with a balanced vision aligned with the demands of the current stage. The reality of our time requires us to launch scientific and practical initiatives, exert more efforts, and work continuously within the Association’s fundamental framework, aligned with its vision, objectives, and Arab identity—aware that we are an integral part of this world and its comprehensive transformations in various fields of life. With the advent of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, which imposed real challenges by altering work patterns and achievements across all sectors through digital technology, artificial intelligence, advanced software, and big data, it became necessary for us to develop a modern strategy. This strategy responds effectively and proportionately to available capabilities and contemporary requirements, deepening the concepts of total quality, scientific research, and planning. The aim is to create a balanced equation that enables us to keep pace with rapid developments while achieving the sustainable development goals of our universities and Arab societies. Accordingly, a strategic plan (2020–2030) was developed for the Association to achieve the desired goals, through joint efforts with true partners—foremost among them the Arab universities, which are the cornerstone of this framework—and in cooperation with Arab and international institutions and organizations related to academic affairs, regardless of their names and specializations. From the very beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, we realized that many concepts and methods related to the educational process had begun to change. It became necessary for us to provide academic support to universities, after most countries of the world directed their education systems towards distance learning and blended learning. We took a proactive step by issuing a practical guide for distance learning to ensure a minimum set of standards necessary to regulate the educational process. This guide became a reference both regionally and internationally, contributing to the safety and quality of distance learning. We also succeeded in organizing many academic and research conferences and seminars, and launched several projects—some completed and others still in progress—moving forward as planned. Among the most notable projects are: the Arab University Ranking Project, a special platform for Arab journals in cooperation with Elsevier (owner of the Scopus database), the Arab Impact Factor for journals and periodicals, the Arab Proficiency Test for measuring Arabic language skills (for native and non-native speakers), and the forthcoming unified framework for Arab qualifications. Today, we launch our website in its new form to keep pace with developments and to make information easily accessible to all users interested in the Association and its activities. We sincerely appreciate your attention and continuous support for a better future for our generations and our students. With my highest appreciation and respect to you all.
