A committee delegated by the Association of Arab Universities convened on Wednesday, 3 June 2026, to review the application submitted by the University of Sciences and Arts in Lebanon (Lebanese Republic) for membership in the Association. The meeting was held as part of the established procedures for evaluating new membership applications.
The committee comprised H.E. Prof. Dr. Amr Ezzat Salama, Secretary-General of the Association of Arab Universities, who participated remotely; Prof. Dr. Hassan Al-Laqqis, President of the Islamic University of Lebanon, serving as Chair of the Committee; and Prof. Dr. Ali Haidar Alaeddine, President of Al Maaref University, as a committee member.
During the meeting, Prof. Dr. Nasri Harb, President of the University of Sciences and Arts in Lebanon, delivered a comprehensive presentation outlining the university’s history, vision, mission, and strategic objectives. He also provided an overview of its colleges, academic programmes, scientific and research activities, and future development plans. The presentation highlighted the university’s key achievements in the fields of education, scientific research, and community service.
The committee reviewed the membership application file and the accompanying official documentation. It also conducted a site visit to the university’s facilities, including classrooms, laboratories, and academic and administrative infrastructure, to assess the institution’s capabilities and resources and evaluate their compliance with the membership requirements and standards of the Association of Arab Universities.
In his remarks during the meeting, H.E. Prof. Dr. Amr Ezzat Salama welcomed the Lebanese University of Sciences and Arts’ application to join the Association of Arab Universities, emphasizing the Association’s commitment to expanding its membership network by attracting distinguished Arab universities that demonstrate a strong commitment to quality and academic excellence.
He commended the university’s progress, educational mission, and forward-looking vision, expressing his hope that, upon admission, the university would play an active role in the Association’s programmes, initiatives, and activities.
H.E. Prof. Dr. Salama further stressed that the accession of distinguished Arab universities to the Association strengthens opportunities for joint academic and scientific cooperation and promotes the exchange of expertise and successful experiences among Arab higher education institutions. Such collaboration, he noted, contributes to advancing higher education, scientific research, and sustainable development efforts across the Arab world.
